Happy Mother’s Day

It’s my first Mother’s Day. BG just turned 3 months old. And in that short time since her birth, I think about how much my life has changed. Not just my house, which now has bottles, playmats and pacifiers strewn about in a perpetual state of chaos, but my perspective too. “I didn’t know life could be this beautiful, I remembered saying to my OB during one of our postpartum visits.” “…But I’ve never had so much to lose.” She, a mother herself, nodded knowingly. “Motherhood some of the highest highs and the lowest lows.” Such is to be expected, I guess, when as they say, your heart is alive outside your body.

When I see my mother hold my daughter, I think of how she did the same for me, at a time when the world thought much less kindly of mother’s in medicine. While I’ve always loved my mother, there’s a profound new appreciation as I now walk the same path as she.

BG is starting to babble. She stamps with excitement and erupts in coos and delighted squeals when I read Chika Chicka Boom Boom to her, as my mom read to me. What a beautiful privilege to help this little life blossom.
