Skin-di-VISUALS: IgA Gammopathies

Neither could I, but I remember now with this simple but powerful visual mnemonic Just remember “SWEED as PYE”

  • Sweet syndrome
  • EED; erythema elevatum dilution
  • Pyoderma gangrenosum (when associated with gammopathy)
  • Subcorneal pustular dermatosis (important point here)
    • Visual cue- think of the pie crusts like the characteristic subcorneal pustules of this condition.
    • Of note: DIF is NEGATIVE for IgA but still a/w IgA gammopathy
  • IgA pemphigus
    • Visual cue- think of the pie crusts like the characteristic subcorneal pustules of this condition.
    • DIF is POSITIVE AND can be a/w IgA gammopathy
    • Weaker IgA association than the above three diagnoses

Mnemonic nerds like myself will recognize that this is an acronym nemonic combined with a phonetic mnemonic.
